Sadly, every year many young children on holiday drown in private swimming pools. To combat this, from 2004, French Law made it compulsory to have in place a pool security system. Our pool has been fenced for many years, but in order to comply with the new legislation we have replaced this with a wall and a childproof self closing gate. It takes seconds for a child to fall silently into an unprotected pool and this gives you the peace of mind of knowing that should your concentration drop for a moment a barrier is in place between your child and the water. It is important to note though, that you should not allow your level of vigilance to drop, as no security system is infallible and only constant supervision can truly protect your children. To help you with this we also provide information about pool security and safety upon your arrival. Possible security systems take many forms and a debate continues to rage over the most suitable. Sadly, many owners have taken the easy and cheaper option of installing just a pool alarm. Beware of these, although serving their purpose of protecting under 5's, we have tried one of these this year as a complement to the wall and were not impressed. Firstly, whether you have young children or not in your party you will be obliged under the new law to have the alarm in operation and will have to disarm the alarm before every swim (the alarm rearms automatically after 2 minutes inactivity). Every time you forget the very load alarm will sound. Sooner or later you or another guest will be tempted to turn the alarm off completely. Furthermore these alarms have proved to be unreliable and can sound often and for little or no reason, throughout a windy night or during a summer storm for example. Whether you book with us or not, please ask owners about what pool security measures they have in place. |
